Titanium nitride coating

Titanium Nitride (TiN) was one of the first coatings developed for metal cutting tool applications and remains a mainstay in the coating business. Often called TiNi or TiN, it is bright gold in color, hard, and suitable for most wear applications. TiN is used in industrial applications for its hardness, scratch and wear resistance.  Our Titianium Nitride coating complies with aerospace specification AMS 2444A.

General Characteristics: Titanium nitride is the most frequently used ceramic coating on machine tools, and has the longest history. Bright gold in color, it is often applied where both wear resistance and appearance are important.

Coating Services Group, LLC. deposits both single and multilayer versions of this coating. CSG also offers unique surface finish and masking capabilities.

Applied by an environmentally friendly PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) process, TiN coatings do not affect substrate surface finish.

Color Range: Dark gold, variable to light gold or even silver (SLP)

Thickness Range: 1 to 5 microns (~0.00004 to 0.0002”)

Hardness: 2200 to 2400 Hv (Vickers hardness)

Maximum Operating Temperature: 600º C (1100º F)

Lubricity: 0.5 coefficient of friction

Deposition Temperature: ~ 350º C

Thermal Conductivity: Low

Wear Resistance: Excellent

We can coat steel, stainless steel and titanium alloy. We do not coat aluminum, cheap cast parts, pot metal, brazed parts, springs, plastic or other non-metallic parts. Contact us if you have questions.

As of now IONFORGE offers coating packages on select Glock and Desert Eagle firearms. More products and packages will be available in the future.

All components of a firearm must be completely disasembled before coating. If you cannot have your parts disassembled before sending them to us, we can provide a disassembly and reassembly service for $35/hr.

TiN is a conformal coating that is less than 5 microns thick. TiN will not fill voids, scratches, pits or other imperfections in the surface of a part. We offer coating removal and finishing services on select components and firearms.

IONFORGE's coating is thin enough to improve the performance of precision components while keeping all dimensions within tolerances.  Our coatings are regularly deposited on small gears, pinions, connectors, and other components where maintenance of tight tolerances over long lifetimes is vital.  Coating thicknesses typically range from 0.5 to 5.0 microns.

If you are sending you firearm components directly to us as an individual, you do not need to complete the DOJ papaerwork. FFL holders sending us serialized frames or receivers must obtain the DOJ “Firearms Shipment Approval”.

Once again, DOJ paperwork for components such as barrels, triggers and the like is not required.

We offer full surface preparation for DE pistols that come to us in black oxide or the new stainless steel version. The gun will need to be completely disassembled, we will remove the factory finish on all components and coat with TiN and Cerakote. Call us to discuss.

We offer full surface preparation for Glock pistols that come to us with the factory finish. The gun will need to be completely disassembled, we will remove the factory finish on all components and coat with TiN and Cerakote. For Glock components the finish is a smooth, matte gold. We do not process the plastic frame. Call to discuss.

We are dedicated to providing the highest quality nitride coatings available. Our TiN coating is compliant with aerospace specification AMS 2444A, Class I and Class 2. Every coating batch is run with a witness coupon which we use for destructive and non-destructive testing. All coated parts are inspected before leaving our facility. Witness coupons for each batch are retained for 5 years. Our facility is an FDA registered establishment, we are licensed in the State of California as a medical device manufacturer and we have an FFL.

Our typical turnaround time is 7-10 business days.

IONFORGE warrants the quality of its coatings. If you find any defects in the coatings we provide, contact us immediately. We do not warranty the performance of your firearm. Our only obligation shall be to rework, or refund the original purchase price of the coating if we have determined it to be defective. The suitability of our coatings and the intended use shall be the sole responsibility of the user.
